Employee-Owner Spotlight: David Bisson, Construction Inspector

Dave BissonWe are excited to welcome David Bisson to the construction team as our newest Construction Inspector. Mr. Bisson spent time in the U.S. Army serving as First Lieutenant, Construction Unit Commander, where he gained valuable experience in leadership and project management. He is an accomplished construction/facilities professional with significant expertise in the areas of project development, operations, staff management and coordination with design professionals, vendors and subcontractors. Happy to have you on board, David!

What places have you lived in throughout your life?

I’ve always lived in Maine. I grew up in Rumford, and for a long time lived on Little Sebago Lake. I live in Raymond now, but I still have a camp at the lake.

What made you want to become a Construction Inspector? 

I’ve worked as a facility engineering manager, construction consultant, and a construction company owner. For one reason or another, I’ve always been inspecting and overseeing construction.

What traits define you? 

Passionate about work and people with a sense of humor.

What is your favorite part of the type of work that you do? 

Resolving conflicts face-to-face. I realize this is weird.  Most people will do almost anything to avoid conflict.

Before working at Sebago, what was the most unusual or interesting job you’ve ever had?

Running a construction company.

What are your hobbies outside the office? 

Hunting and woodworking

If you had to eat one meal, every day for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Two eggs sunny side up, home fries, sausage links with white toast.

Top three life highlights? 

Being in the Army, getting married, raising kids

If you were an animal what would you be? 

Beaver

Where would you like to go on a dream vacation? 

Europe

What is the best concert you attended? 

I got to see Janis Joplin before she died.

What are you excited about at Sebago? 

The latest thinking about management by people that study this stuff is that followers can, and should be, leaders also. Work needs to be a collaborative effort. Employee ownership gives everybody in the organization a stake in the outcomes.

Tell us something that might surprise us about you. 

Some people don’t like being retired.
