Chad Flinkstrom, CWS, CPESC | Environmental Scientist
Welcome Chad Flinkstrom to the Sebago Technics team! Chad joins us as an Environmental Scientist, bringing nearly 10 years of experience in environmental consulting with expertise in natural resources permitting, wetland delineations, and stormwater management. As a Professional Wetland Scientist and Maine resident who’s passionate about making a positive impact in his community, Chad is excited to dive into the diverse projects that help shape northern New England. His collaborative spirit and deep knowledge will be invaluable additions to our employee-owned team. Welcome aboard, Chad!

Can you share a bit about your professional background and experience?
I’m closing in on 10 years of experience in the environmental consulting world with a focus on natural resources permitting, primarily in the northern New England region. I am a Professional Wetland Scientist and Certified Professional in Erosion and Sediment Control and much of my work has been comprised of wetland delineations, vernal pool assessments, environmental and stormwater inspection and permitting for electric utilities. I’ve also done some construction project management in environmental, matting and access for transmission line projects.
What inspired you to join Sebago Technics?
The employee ownership model is probably number one. I’ve been wanting to work for a company where I can be an owner and contribute to the overall success of the organization while being able to enjoy the fruits of my and my teams’ labor.
What do you love most about living in Maine?
I love the small town feel of Maine and the close-knit communities that survive and thrive here. There are so many micro-communities and niches here like surfing, for example. The people that live here are humble and kind, down-to-earth and just great neighbors. I love that I can enjoy the beach in the summer, surf in the fall, ski in the winter and golf in the spring – so many places to explore.
What are you most excited about in your new role?
I’m excited about the new and different projects and the people to work on them with. I am used to working solely on electric utility infrastructure and some renewable energy projects. Here, there is so much variety in what we do and it’s all home grown, right in my backyard!
What’s your go-to local restaurant or café in Maine?
I love Dunstan Tap and Table in Scarborough. They have super good wings and sandwiches. Try their house made ranch; it’s addicting.
What skills or strengths do you bring to your position?
I love working collaboratively with others, getting to know people for who they are and find what motivates them, find what they love to do, find out what makes them tick. I really enjoy learning from people and especially people who show passion for their knowledge in something. There are a lot of very talented, smart people that work here and I’m excited to learn from them and share some of my knowledge, experience, and mistakes I’ve made!
What do you enjoy doing outside of work? Any hobbies or interests you’d like to share?
I love hanging out with my wife and 3.5-year-old daughter. We like to play in our backyard with our dog, swing on the playset and walk to the park. I also enjoy playing golf, skiing, surfing, CrossFit and cooking (when I have time).
Do you have a favorite spot or activity to do in Maine?
I love surfing in the fall and winter. Sitting in the water at Old Orchard Beach when it’s snowing and no one else is around a surreal experience. Snow covered beach with a Ferris wheel in the background, it doesn’t get more dream-like than that.
Have you explored any of Maine’s beautiful hiking trails or national parks? Which one is your favorite?
I haven’t so much recently, but I have skinned up and skied the backside of Black Mountain in Rumford and it’s super fun. I love exploring Maine’s rocky coastline. Wolfe’s Neck State Park in Freeport is a nice spot for the family.
If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?
I think I’d want to do a ski trip to Europe. I recently got to ski Whistler Blackcomb in British Columbia, and it was amazing. Any cool new mountain range would be fun.
Do you have any kids and/or pets? Tell us about them!
I have a 3.5-year-old daughter and a 10-year-old lab/border collie!
What was your first impression of the company culture at Sebago Technics?
I was brought in by an old co-worker a few months before I started and the energy in the place really stuck with me. I am used to working from home or out of a mostly vacant office building, so seeing everyone here working together, chatting, and collaborating was exciting, unique and energizing!
What’s a hidden gem in Maine that you think everyone should visit?
A while ago on one of my projects, I went to Grand Falls way up past the Forks and it was beautiful. It’s a long way, but worth it!
What projects or tasks are you looking forward to working on at Sebago Technics?
I’m looking forward to working on all kinds of projects. All these types of projects are new to me (except solar). So, I’m excited to work on projects that will affect my community.
What are your thoughts on Sebago Technics being an employee-owned company through its ESOP, and how do you think it benefits the employees and the company as a whole?
The ESOP model works. It’s a great model that creates an environment of collaboration, togetherness, accountability, hard work, dedication and pride. Everyone here is working toward a common goal and wants to do good work, have fun and make a living.
Have you attended any local festivals or events? Which one did you enjoy the most?
I recently went to Guster on the Ocean at Thompson’s Point, and it was super fun!
What’s one thing on your bucket list that you’re determined to accomplish?
I want to build a house! We have been living in a small ‘starter home’ for almost 7 years now and I’d love to build a new house out behind our current…maybe Sebago can help me
What are your career goals, and how do you see Sebago Technics helping you achieve them?
I want to make the most impact in my community as I can. As I get older, I’m more drawn to helping people. Life is hard and I feel very privileged to be healthy, working for a great company, having a family, a house, and food on the table. I want to be in a position that builds a better community for all, and I think Sebago puts me in just the right spot to do so.
