Nicole Merosola | Survey Technician

We’re excited to have Nicole join us as our newest Survey Technician! She’s a recent USM graduate with a B.A. in Geography-Anthropology and GIS & Planning minor, plus she earned the Edmund S. Muskie School Associate Dean’s Award for Outstanding Student this year. Nicole brings valuable field experience from her internships with Portland Water District, where she performed land use analysis on Sebago Lake’s sub-watersheds. She’s eager to trade her desk for the field and dive into surveying fundamentals! When she’s not working, you’ll find Nicole kayaking Maine’s rivers, enjoying fresh seafood, or hanging out with her pets Benny the cat and Spaghetti the snake! Welcome to the Sebago Technics team, Nicole!

Can you share a bit about your professional background and experience?

I recently graduated from USM with a bachelors in Geography-Anthropology and a GIS and planning minor. During my time at USM I snagged a cool fellowship where I was able to research glacial change in Eastern Greenland. I also interned twice at the Portland Water District, where I performed a land use analysis on Landsat 8 data to determine the percentage of green space in each of Sebago Lake’s sub-watersheds.

What inspired you to join Sebago Technics?

I heard about Sebago Technics while interning at the PWD. It seemed like a really interesting company, so I applied on a whim (and I’m so glad that I did!)

What do you love most about living in Maine?

Honestly? Fresh seafood. I couldn’t live somewhere without the ocean right close by. You can’t beat coastal Maine’s seafood selection.

What are you most excited about in your new role?

I’m most excited to learn the basics of surveying and gain some new skills. I have a GIS background, so being out in the field instead of behind a desk has been a great change of pace. I am eager to learn as much as possible!

What’s your go-to local restaurant or café in Maine?

Richie’s Jerk and BBQ in Sanford has the BEST oxtail meal. My mouth is watering just thinking about it.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work? Any hobbies or interests you’d like to share?

I like to be outside as much as possible! I love to garden, kayak, play badminton, hike, walk, or just sit in the sun. On rainy days I like to make art, read, or play animal crossing on the Game Cube.

Do you have a favorite spot or activity to do in Maine?

Kayaking! Theres a great launch on the Salmon Falls River in Berwick, ME.

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?

My fiancé and I are planning to honeymoon somewhere in Indonesia. It looks incredibly beautiful, and we have a friend who lives in Jakarta. Perfect mix of city life, gorgeous beaches, and fun adventures!

Do you have any kids and/or pets? Tell us about them!

I have two pets, a cat named Benny and a snake named Spaghetti. Benny just turned 14, he’s my sweet old man. Spaghetti is albino and blind, but she’s living her best life!

What was your first impression of the company culture at Sebago Technics?

Welcoming, friendly, inclusive and non-judgmental. I have felt super comfortable here in my first few weeks! Everyone is a joy to talk to and always ready to help.

1What’s a hidden gem in Maine that you think everyone should visit?

Great East Lake. Quiet, peaceful, and there’s a killer rope swing.

What projects or tasks are you looking forward to working on at Sebago Technics?

I’m excited to work on the Portland Water District project and eventually get into some classic surveying!

Have you attended any local festivals or events? Which one did you enjoy the most?

I recently went to the Acton Fair; it was so much fun! My favorite event is always the pig scramble. There’s nothing more fun than watching a bunch of kids chase piglets around a ring.
