Sebago Technics provided engineering support for the renovation of York High School’s track and field complex in York, Maine. This $6 million project, initiated in Spring 2023, transforms the school’s athletic facilities through the replacement of the existing grass field with artificial turf and complete reconstruction of the track surface.
Working in close collaboration with CHA Consulting, Sebago provided engineering services from initial feasibility studies through construction administration. The project required careful division of responsibilities, with Sebago handling all permitting requirements and completing the majority of engineering and stormwater design for areas outside the track complex, while CHA managed all design elements within the track area itself. This collaborative approach ensured specialized expertise was applied to each component of the renovation.
The project presented significant regulatory challenges requiring approvals from the Town of York and an amendment to the School’s existing Maine DEP Site Location of Development Permit. The site’s location within a shoreland overlay district, combined with an adjacent significant wetland complex, necessitated close coordination with municipal officials to ensure all design elements met stringent environmental protection requirements. Sebago’s expertise in environmental permitting and stormwater management proved essential in navigating these complex regulatory requirements while delivering a modern athletic facility that enhances the school’s recreational and competitive capabilities.
