Project overview
At the onset of the contract, Sebago first worked with the City to complete planning level efforts for the corridor prior to engaging in full design documents in 2020. These efforts included completing traffic signal warrant analyses at Marginal Way and Chestnut Street and drafting multiple concepts for corridor lane configurations to determine the City’s ultimate vision for Marginal Way.

project Details
Improving accessibility in a high-traffic corridor
Upon receipt of the determined layout, Sebago worked closely with the City through design to implement the following elements:
- Traffic signal modifications at the intersection of Marginal Way and Elm Street/Preble Street to install a new mast arm, adjust detection for lane reconfigurations, and upgrade pedestrian infrastructure
- Mill and overlay of the corridor with striping improvements to create allocated dedicated bicycle facilities
- Spot sidewalk reconstruction to ensure all infrastructure was upgraded to Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards
Construction level documents were issued by Sebago for the almost $1 million project. Sebago provided engineering support during construction in 2021, reviewing submittals and responding to requests for information (RFIs) as necessary. Sebago also completed on-site construction support specifically regarding the functionality of the traffic signal modifications to the City’s standards.
