Smarter traffic management in New Hampshire
Faced with outdated signal technology and limited budgets, the City of Dover recognized that addressing its aging 34-signal infrastructure would be an ongoing process. Using a combination of local funds and state and federal grants, the City partnered with IT teams, contractors, and Sebago Technics to deliver a visionary solution.
Since 2010, our team has helped design and implement a wireless communications network connecting all 34 city signals to a centralized Traffic Management Center located at Sebago Technics’ headquarters. Today, the system supports both traffic signal operations and emergency response personnel as part of the City’s incident management program.
This innovative system includes fiber and wireless upgrades, video detection for real-time data collection, and live monitoring capabilities to support emergency response and signal optimization. Dover has since become a “test bed” for next-generation traffic management technologies, including piloting advanced signal performance measures, Bluetooth travel time monitoring, and adaptive signal control.
