Comprehensive GIS mapping
Our survey team employs a combination of visual inspection, magnetic detection, and precision surveying techniques to locate each curb-stop valve throughout the district, including four offshore islands. While many locations can be captured using high-accuracy GPS equipment, the project’s complexity requires adaptive methodology. In areas where GPS signals are compromised by tree cover or urban infrastructure, our team transitions to conventional survey equipment to maintain the accuracy standards required for the GIS database integration.
The scale and scope of this project demonstrate Sebago Technics’ capacity to deliver large-scale utility infrastructure mapping services. By systematically documenting the precise location of all 42,000 water services within a two-year timeframe, our team is helping PWD modernize their asset management capabilities. This enhanced GIS database will provide PWD operators with immediate access to accurate valve locations, ultimately improving service reliability and emergency response capabilities for the communities they serve throughout the greater Portland area.
