Boothbay Village revitalization
Route 27 through the coastal village of Boothbay had long been plagued by seasonal congestion, high-speed traffic, and pedestrian safety concerns. In response, the Town of Boothbay launched a $3.3 million roadway improvement initiative in partnership with a local developer and MaineDOT’s Business Partnership Initiative. Sebago Technics was retained to bring this vision to life—from early traffic analysis and safety studies to final design and permitting.
Working alongside Mark Lenters of Ourston Engineering, a national roundabout specialty firm, Sebago led a robust public education process that built trust and secured community support for a bold new design. The solution included a realigned Route 27, a relocated major side road, a roundabout, new bike lanes and sidewalks, enhanced landscaping, and pedestrian-scale lighting. The project also involved extensive utility relocation and stormwater treatment design—all executed with speed, care, and cross-sector collaboration—culminating in a 2019 Build Maine Award.
