Playing a pivotal role in the reimagining of a critical transportation link between Maine and New Hampshire, we delivered complex roadway, traffic, and rail designs for the new dual-level lift bridge.

An award-winning bridge redefining regional infrastructure
This project replaced a deteriorating vertical lift bridge with a two-level structure capable of carrying both vehicles and rail across the Piscataqua River. The innovative design separates vehicle and rail traffic and improves maritime clearance—reducing lift openings by up to 65%. Sebago Technics developed the roadway and rail alignments for both approaches, including a redesigned, cost-effective signalized intersection on the Kittery side and coordinated roadway connections in Portsmouth.
In addition to design, Sebago provided right-of-way mapping and led utility coordination in collaboration with MaineDOT. The result is a structurally advanced and operationally efficient transportation corridor that balances engineering excellence with regional connectivity.
This standout infrastructure project received national recognition, including the ACEC National Grand Award, ENR New England Project of the Year, and a #2 ranking in the 2018 Top 10 by Roads & Bridges Magazine.
