Responsibilities

Design of subdivisions, grading plans, drainage, paving and sewers. Inputs data into pre-written computer programs. Completes design calculations. Researches code requirements and design procedures manuals. Verifies design computations and plan detailing for conformance with codes, manuals, and design considerations. Utilizes AutoCAD and various software applications. Visits project sites to review conditions as appropriate. Coordinates with other engineers, technicians, and administrative assistants during preliminary and final plan preparation for conformance to standards and code requirements.

Seeks technical information from peers when problems are encountered and expected to be outside of one’s own area of expertise. Prepares draft correspondence, technical specifications and reports. Attends and participates at client meetings, as appropriate. Communicates with project team members, client representatives, review agencies, and others as appropriate to project. Coordinates final design computations with review agencies. Coordinates utility disposition on projects with involved utility companies. Prepares draft cost estimates, periodic reports covering construction activities, pay estimates, and data necessary to document acceptability of materials and quantities for final payment.

Education and Experience

Requires a Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or other related field. Registration as an Engineer-in-Training or Professional Engineer desired.

Civil design experience including subdivisions, grading plans, or streets.
