Employee-Owner Spotlight | Brendan Felix | Survey Technician

We’re thrilled to introduce the newest addition to our Sebago Technics team: Brendan Felix! Brendan joined our Survey-Geomatics Group as a Survey Technician.

Originally from Cape Cod, Brendan recently made the move to Maine to embark on this new adventure with us. Previously, he worked as a Survey Mapping Technician with a surveying/engineering firm, honing his skills in field data collection, boundary, topographic, and construction surveys. His background also includes a role as a mapping and data engineer with a world-renowned company, specializing in GIS mapping and data analysis.

Brendan is well-versed in the use of industry-standard tools like Carlson Survey and ArcGIS, and he holds a degree in Geography from Keene State College.

Where did you grow up and what other places have you lived in throughout your life?

I grew up on Cape Cod in Massachusetts and have also lived in Lebanon and Keene, New Hampshire!

Favorite place(s) to go in Maine?

Sugarloaf Mountain. I am an avid snowboarder!

What three traits define you? 

I would describe myself as a very outgoing, team player who aims to complete a task as effectively and efficiently as possible!

What was your very first job, and what did you learn from it?

My very first job was as a dishwasher for a busy restaurant in my hometown on Cape Cod. I learned the importance of hard work in order to achieve what you want out of life!

What is your favorite part of the type of work that you do?

I love maps, and the outdoors, thus surveying is the perfect career choice for me!

What was your journey like to get where you are?

I attended Keene State College in Keene, New Hampshire where I acquired my passion and experience working in the GIS and Geography sector. From there, I worked for a GIS mapping company based in White River Jct., Vermont. During the pandemic, I moved back to my hometown on Cape Cod to work remotely. It was there that I reconnected with an old colleague and transitioned my career into surveying!

What are your hobbies outside the office?

I enjoy doing anything outdoors; snowboarding, golfing, sailing, wakeboarding, and hiking, to name a few

What inspired you to work for Sebago Technics?

The personable and friendly staff with a common goal of achievement. I love the team aspect; it truly feels as though we are all in this together!

Favorite thing to do in Maine?

Snowboard and hike. Also, explore various golf courses.

If you had to eat one meal, every day for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Burritos, no question!

Top three life highlights?

10-day trip to Cuba; trip to Amsterdam and the Normandy Coast; and snowboarding at Jackson Hole last year!

Do you have a hidden talent? If so, tell us about it!

I can play the Violin! I used to play for a punk rock cover band in college!

If you were an animal what would you be and why?

A bird so I can travel easily.

Where would you like to go on a dream vacation?

New Zealand because I love the beach and the mountains; New Zealand has both!

Favorite Holiday and why?

Christmas – such a great time with family!

What is the best concert you attended?

Levitate Festival in Marshfield, Massachusetts.

Tell us something that might surprise us about you.  

I have an identical twin brother!

What are your favorite ways to enjoy the outdoors with friends and family?

Going out on my dad’s boat back on Cape Cod.

When you think about working at Sebago Technics, what makes you proudest or most excited?

To say that I work for an organization that truly cares about what they do!
