Engineers Week Spotlight | Brandon Blake | Senior Civil Engineer

How many years of experience do you have as an engineer?

I have 11 years of experience.

When/how did you discover that you wanted to become a civil engineer?

I started my career as a drafter and after a few years realized that I enjoyed the civil engineering aspect of the job more than any other task.

What do you like most about the work you do?

What I enjoy most is the variety of work. Every project is different and brings new challenges daily.

What is your favorite/most notable project and why?

My favorite project so far is a toss-up between Morse High School in Bath and the Maine Correctional Center in Windham. Both projects were challenging and forced me to think outside of the box and get creative to solve unique design issues.

What advice would you give to someone who is thinking about becoming an engineer?

My advice to anybody thinking about becoming an engineer is to job shadow as many different engineering disciplines as possible to get a better idea of what you may want to focus on in school.
